For sixty years, San Diego residents have made The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch a must-do Spring activity. Every year from March to May, terraces of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers bloom and paint the whole hillside.
The blooms usually reach their peak around mid-April, although peak times can change depending on the weather. Ranunculus flowers need lots of sunshine to thrive (which, being in San Diego, they've got in spades).
Thanks to the epic rain and sun, the blooms are especially vibrant and colorful this year.
There are other flowers besides ranunculus -- these are pea blossoms! (They smell amazing.)
The theme here is a throwback to simple times -- think farm tractors and ice cream cones (they have both) and spending long lazy Sundays in the sun.
The flower fields are open seven days a week through mid-May. Check out their Instagram for (swoon worthy!) floral inspiration.
