Stephen Colbert teased a presidential run in Russiaby Circa News

Comedian Stephen Colbert on Friday suggested he is “considering” a 2020 presidential campaign during an interview on Russian television.

“I am here in Russia to announce that I am considering a run for president in 2020, and I thought it would be better to cut out the middle man and just tell the Russians myself,” he said on “Evening Urgant.”

“If anyone would like to work on my campaign in an unofficial capacity, please just let me know.”

Michael Schneider, executive editor of IndieWire, on Friday tweeted that Colbert should seriously weigh the possibility even if the comic was joking.

Other Twitter users urged Colbert, who hosts CBS’s “The Late Show,” to mount a legitimate presidential bid in 2020.

Larry Urgant, who hosts “Evening Urgant,” celebrated Colbert’s visit to Russia with an Instagram post of the two comics together Thursday.

Colbert, who is reportedly in Russia to tape a future episode of his show, on Thursday mocked President Trump from the foreign nation.

Trump on Thursday said he does not have recordings of his conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump’s abrupt firing of Comey in May came amid the FBI’s probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race, including possible collusion between Moscow and Trump’s campaign.
