Prodigy, one half of the rap duo Mobb Deep, has died in Las Vegas, TMZ reported. He was 42.
Prodigy's publicist said the rapper was hospitalized a few days ago after a performance in Las Vegas due to "complications from a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth."
The publicist said Prodigy's cause of death has yet to be determined.
Prodigy performed in Las Vegas with Mobb Deep on Saturday night. He was in the city with the Art of Rap tour, which also featured Ice-T, KRS-One and Ghostface Killah, among others.
Prodigy, whose real name is Albert Johnson, formed Mobb Deep in the early 1990s in New York City along with Kejuan Muchita, better known as Havoc.
Mobb Deep's biggest hits included "Quiet Storm" and "Shook Ones."
