German regulators have classified 'My Friend Cayla' doll as a 'hidden espionage device'by Circa News

German regulators have removed the "My Friend Cayla" doll from the market after determining that toy has the ability to steal information from the children who play with it, Federal Network Agency said in a statement. Cayla dolls have been classified as "hidden espionage devices" because they conceal microphones that ask kids questions about themselves and their family. The possession and selling of such devices are banned by German law, according to CNET.

The government agency is not looking to prosecute parents who have purchased the doll, however. They are expected to destroy the doll.

This isn't the first time the manufacturers have been in a compromising situation. In December, the Elections Privacy Information told the US Federal Trade Commission that the toy violates privacy rules, citing its ability to record conversations and transmit audio files to a remove server without parental consent.
