Norwegian activists are working to raise money to repair a penis-shaped rock formation, which is also (unsurprisingly) a tourist destination, that had been damaged.
On Saturday, joggers came across the cracked Trollpikken rock formation. Officials noted that holes had been drilled in the rock, which they said strongly suggests the formation was deliberately vandalized.
Kjetil Bentsen, who has been pushing to make Trollpikken a more sought after tourist destination, told the local newspaper Dalane Tidende that someone clearly wanted to "cut off the whole formation."
“This is terribly sad, and I’m appalled that someone could do something like this,” Bentsen told the newspaper. He told public broadcaster NRK that he's convinced the formation "will be rebuilt."
By Sunday, more than 500 people had donated $10,600 to help with the cost of repairs.
Police in Norway are still trying to determine who is responsible for damaging the landmark. If convicted, the person could face up to a year in prison for a serious environmental crime.
