WATCH | A Sydney, Australia, bakery recently released a futuristic version of everyone's favorite pastry: glow-in-the-dark donuts. Aptly referred to as "glonuts," the radiating treats served at Black Star Pastry are taking social media by storm.
The chefs at Black Star Pastry created the "glonut" for this year's vivid light extravaganza in Martin Place, a downtown glow-in-the-dark celebration.
"The inspiration behind the glonutcame while Chris Thé was walking around the Vivid Festival in 2016 trying to thinking of a way to link food with the light show," Black Star told Circa. "The answer that popped into his head was to make it glow in the dark. Seeing the amazing Vivid light show is one thing, eating it is another."

It took the pastry chefs at Black Star a few months to experiment with glow-in-the-dark icing. "The glonut is based on our Black Star donut, which is like a brioche with half the butter, so it is light to eat and not at all greasy. The magic is in the icing which glows in the dark under blacklight."
Place one under a blacklight and it lights up as brightly as your favorite nightlight.
The treats' toxic appearance may alarm some, but the donuts are made from natural ingredients.
According to Black Star's website, the glow is created by vitamin B and is safe to eat.
